In accordance with the labour code, employees who fail to give notice that they have quit their jobs risk receiving a one-year employment ban.
When an employee in the UAE fails to notify their employer that they have quit their job and fails to return to work, they are referred to as "absconds." A one-year employment prohibition follows this.
The new UAE labour law's section on "Unlawful Absence from Work" (Article 50) provides guidance in this case.
"The foreign worker shall not be granted another work permit to join another job in the state in accordance with the provisions hereof, for a period of one year from the date of the absence from work, if the foreign worker leaves work, for an illegitimate reason, before the end of the contract term," the law states.
