Occupational Health Cards Mandatory for Workers in Dubai

Occupational Health Cards have been made mandatory in Dubai for workers. According to the new order from the Dubai Municipality, the owners or managers of these establishments should apply on behalf of their workers for occupational health cards within 30 days of the latter’s joining date.

This administrative decision was issued by the Director-General of Dubai Municipality, Hussain Nasser Lootah after making amendments to earlier decisions as well as local order on public health and safety. “The purpose of the new decision is to replace the text of Article 48 of the original administrative decision,” the municipality said in the release.

Occupational health cards are mandatory for workers who are employed in establishments that are directly connected to public health. The card will be valid for one year from the date of issuance and must be renewed within 30 days of its expiry date. The occupational health cards are mandatory for employees of health clubs, spas, fitness centres, food handlers in all sorts of food establishments, beauticians, salon workers, barbers, nursery and kindergarten staff and anyone who is related to public health. The card will be issued by Dubai Municipality Clinic which certifies that the employee is fit enough to work in the job they are employed in.

The purpose of the new order is to make clear the time-period by which employees must apply for their mandatory health card, which is different from a standard health card provided by health authorities. Inspections will be conducted by Department of Public Health and Safety and Food Control Department to ensure that such workers hold occupational health cards that are valid. Violations will be fined depending on the number of offences and the category of their job.
