UAE residency visa holders who stay outside the country for more than six months can now apply for a re-entry permit. The permit for re-entry to the Emirates will be issued when the resident furnishes valid proof and reason for having stayed outside the country for over 180 days. Previously, when a resident stays outside the country for 180 days, their residency would automatically get cancelled with an exception for golden visa holders. Now anyone with a resident visa can apply for re-entry and this would be yet another ground-breaking move by the UAE government.
The service referred to as ‘Issue permit for staying outside UAE over 6 months’ can be applied through the ‘smart services’ facility on the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) website. Applicant must enter their details such as name, mobile phone number and email address, details of the sponsor, applicant’s passport and residency-related information and the reason for staying outside the country.
The approval process takes about five working days and the applicant can only re-enter the country after getting the approval e-mail from the ICP. Once the application is approved, the applicant must enter the UAE within 30 days.
An issuance fee of AED800 and an additional ICP fee of AED150 will be levied on the applicant, making the total cost AED950. In case the application gets rejected, the issuance fee of AED800 would be refunded.
